The prosthesis is continuously in contact with the pubic and genital area; the pH of this area and the typical substances left in the form of secretions can increase the bacterial load of an object or generate foul odors. A prosthesis must be washed comfortably, without the risk of damaging it and without using highly specific detergents, which would also be very expensive. Furthermore, the material must not absorb these substances nor react with them, generating reaction products: such material is defined as inert. Another feature of this material is that it is hypoallergenic: it must not generate potentially harmful molecules.
